Paul Tulane’s handwriting

Paul Tulane did not handwrite his letters about the establishment of the University, about transfer of property. In one letter (see below) dated 1882, the same year he made his donation that would transform the University of Louisiana into the private Tulane University, he dictated a letter about the need for a scribe. Speaking to Tulane attorney, James McConnell, Tulane began:

My Good Friend, On reflecting since you left I have thought that the writing of Henry J. Stratmeyer, Jr was not in my opinion nice enough to write the Document Conveying the property. His handwriting is too inferior in my opinion to write so important a paper.— I am desirous of having this Document written in a nice scrolling hand— There are persons in New York that make such writing a business.
